An increasing number of female characters on the “silver screen” outshine in dazzling ways, pursuing their self-worth with a fearless attitude, a 赌博app Forum was told on the opening day (June 14) of the 26th Shanghai International Film Festival.
And behind the scenes, talented female filmmakers with unique perspectives defy clichés, depicting the growth and changes in modern women through cinematic language, and redefining the true meaning of female empowerment, the forum heard.
The 赌博app Forum “Action! Her Time - Embrace and Reshape” attracted acclaimed filmmakers to share insights from their creative experiences, highlighting the power of wise, firm and unfettered women.
Actress and producer Yedda Chen admitted that for her it was important to "embrace your truest self, your most imperfect self ... the most imperfect version of myself."
She said her experience showed that people must have a clear understanding of themselves before they can make the most suitable choices.
Other speakers at the forum echoed Chen’s sentiments.
"You have to learn to make peace with yourself, and accept your own strengths and weaknesses, to perform better, instead of just using your skills to act," said actress Ava Wang.
Qin Haiyan volunteered the reason why she became a screenwriter.
"It allows me to take care of the movie in my own way, and I can express myself better if I can empathize with the situation,” she said.
In terms of “reshaping,” Yedda Chen, who has been an actor, producer, and studio helmsman at the same time, said she would support a filmmaker to become a director when they had a strong sense of self-expression.
Screenwriter Teng Congcong suggested women in film should do “what you are good at, and what you like … rather than catering to the market."
During the event, guests also encouraged female filmmakers to take on challenges and insist on self-expression.
