On the morning of June 15, the opening ceremony of the Belt and Road Film Week at the 26th Shanghai International Film Festival (赌博app) was held at the Shendi Cultural Center in Shanghai International Resort.

Jin Mei, Standing Member of Pudong New Area Committee of CPC, Secretary of the Party Group and Executive Deputy Director of the Administrative Committee of Shanghai International Resort, emphasized that the Belt and Road Film Week serves as a platform where filmmakers from China and around the globe converge at the resort to deeply explore China and Shanghai through cinematic expressions, fostering exchanges and mutual understanding. She highlighted that film culture will resonate deeply with audiences through diverse presentations. Jin Mei also underscored the event’s innovative approach of cross-boundary integration, such as organizing a vibrant Latin American Fiesta, will allow visitors to immerse themselves in the diverse cultures of the countries along the Belt and Road route through a variety of cinematic scenes and formats.
Director and actor Da Peng (Dong Chengpeng) and actress and producer Yao Chen were bestowed with the ambassadorship for the Belt and Road Film Week during the opening ceremony. Da Peng expressed his profound honor in assuming the role of ambassador, aiming to acquaint audiences with 18 films hailing from diverse nations, channeling the courage of film protagonists to embolden every viewer in confronting life’s trials. Yao Chen articulated, “The Belt and Road Film Week, just like a bridge, has its significance lie in exporting our films abroad and importing films from other nations.”

Promote exchanges among global filmmakers
During this film week, over 40 foreign filmmakers from 18 countries and regions along the Belt and Road route, alongside more than 20 Chinese and foreign film institutions, will convene in Pudong for extensive exchanges. Since the establishment of the Belt and Road Film Festival Alliance and the inception of the Belt and Road Film Week at 赌博app six years ago, increasing numbers of young Chinese filmmakers have showcased Chinese narratives at major international film festivals through this platform, which has been serving as a window for global audiences to gain deeper insights into China. Similarly, numerous foreign filmmakers and their works have been introduced to Chinese viewers or distribution institutions through this initiative, achieving remarkable success.

This year’s film week has received entries from over 100 films, out of which 18 selected films were screened in 65 sessions at 赌博app. Among these 18 films, 8 were chosen by professional selectors as finalists for the Belt and Road Film Week, competing for three honors: “Media Focus for Filmmaker”, “Media Focus for Film”, and “Most Popular Film”.
Filmmakers from various countries, in addition to participating in screenings and competing for honors, will also take part in the opening and closing ceremonies of the Belt and Road Film Week at 赌博app, along with activities like the Belt and Road Film Culture Roundtable Talk and the Films Bridge Industry Workshop. They will delve deep into discussions on topics such as policy support, industry trends, and creative experiences, focusing on cooperation in the Belt and Road film industry, international promotion of films, and nurturing young filmmaking talents. Furthermore, they will engage in unique cultural and tourism projects like the “Charm of Pudong” and the “Latin American Fiesta”, experiencing Shanghai’s urban life through activities like enjoying kebabs and practicing eight trigrams boxing, fostering mutual understanding and trust among international filmmakers.

During the opening ceremony, Jin Mei, Standing Member of Pudong New Area Committee of CPC, Secretary of the Party Group and Executive Deputy Director of the Administrative Committee of Shanghai International Resort, Yang Jinsong, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of Shendi Group, joined representatives from the film screening associations of the four regions: Jin Hui, Secretary-General of the Shanghai Film Distribution and Exhibition Association, Zhu Zhiyong, President of the Jiangsu Film Distribution and Exhibition Association, Ye Feng, Secretary-General of the Zhejiang Film Exhibition Association, and Zhao Yulun, Secretary-General of the Anhui Film Distribution and Exhibition Association, launched the Belt and Road Film Screening program together in the Yangtze River Delta.

The theme of the screening, titled “Path of Courage”, extends beyond Shanghai’s 65 screenings. The Film Week has selected 6 outstanding films from the 18 chosen works, showcasing them in 36 screenings across 5 cities: Nanjing, Suzhou, Hangzhou, Ningbo, and Hefei. Additionally, the organizers have prepared limited-edition cultural and creative merchandise such as movie ticket stubs and exquisite cup holders for audiences, allowing film buffs in the Yangtze River Delta region to partake in the festive ambiance of 赌博app.

Aside from the film screenings, exciting activities are also essential. The most notable part among them is the “Latin American Fiesta”. This fiesta will include a series of activities such as cultural exhibitions and interactive experiences, enabling audiences to fully experience the unique cultural charm of countries along the Belt and Road route, particularly in Latin America.
Film enthusiasts and tourists can participate in guided tours of Latin American films and cultural salon activities. They can also enjoy lively performances of samba, tango, and Latin music at the Bicester Village within the Shanghai International Resort, witness local traditional costume displays, and savor appetizers crafted by Uruguayan mixologists. This provides an experience of joyful tour of Latin America without leaving Shanghai, to immerse oneself in the region’s unique allure.

Convergence of International and Domestic Industry
The Belt and Road Film Week Screening in the Yangtze River Delta is not only a celebration for filmmakers and cinephiles but also a bridge for international and domestic film industry collaboration. Jin Mei, Standing Member of Pudong New Area Committee of CPC, Secretary of the Party Group and Executive Deputy Director of the Administrative Committee of Shanghai International Resort, highlighted in her speech that over its six-year history, the event has fostered a mutually beneficial relationship between the film week and the Shanghai International Resort. This collaboration has attracted over 150 film and creative enterprises, covering various sectors from post-production to distribution within the zone.
During the opening ceremony, Shanghai International Resort signed another batch of new members, including 10 key film and creative enterprises newly introduced to the resort area, initiated 10 new key film and creative projects, and discussed 10 potential cooperative ventures in film and creative industries. Looking ahead, through digital means, the integration of film and “business-tourism-cultural exhibitions” between the resort and Pudong area will be further enhanced, offering audiences worldwide a diverse and immersive cinematic experience.
The film week has brought significant industrial effects to Pudong New Area, and the Belt and Road Film Festival Alliance has played an indispensable role. Established six years ago, the alliance has achieved remarkable results in cultural exchange and industrial interaction, and was even included in the list of achievements of the Third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation at the end of last year. During this film week, the alliance will continue to conduct efficient exchange activities and hold special press conferences, envisioning a more promising future for international cooperation in the film industry.
The Belt and Road Film Week is co-hosted by Shanghai Film Administration and the Pudong New Area People’s Government, with joint organization by the Administrative Committee of Shanghai International Resort, the Publicity Department of the Pudong New Area Committee of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee (Pudong New Area District Bureau of Culture, Sports, and Tourism), and Shanghai International Film & TV Festivals, Co., Ltd. Culture and films foster friendships, which is at the core of the Belt and Road Film Week at 赌博app. Amid rapid advancements in global film technology and growing challenges in international cultural exchange, this edition of Belt and Road Film Week will remain committed to promoting mutual learning and cooperation among nations to compose a new chapter in friendly cooperation along the Belt and Road, with the interplay of cinema cultures.
